Tourism Arrivals - Jan 2019
As expected, the festive season being over, tourist arrivals in January were less December. Nonetheless, January 2019 has been better than 2018. Arrivals from our two major European markets namely France and UK were down by 4.7% and 6.7% respectively, amidst a weaker currency, soaring Brexit uncertainty and higher living costs in France. German arrivals, however, leapt by 18.8%.
On the other side of the globe, arrivals from China fell again, noting 4.7%. Indian arrivals, on the other hand, went up by 3.1%.
Reunion Island has followed France’s footsteps by posting a 15.1% drop in arrivals. Nonetheless, arrivals from South Africa have been 6.6% higher.
Overall, tourist arrivals went up by only 1.1% in January compared to the same period last year.
