Tourism Report - April 2018
The tourism sector posted negative results for the month of April with a decline of 5.8% compared to last year. Europe, our main market, went down by 1.8% helped by UK (-12.3%) and Germany (-20.0%). Interestingly, France was positive to the tune of 14.3%.
Tourist arrivals from Africa was also down by 18.5% with namely South Africa (-14.0%) and Reunion (-29.4%) being the most concerning ones. Following suit, the Asian market also declined by 6.4% with China (-16.2%) being on continuous decline.
With the peak season now leaving, we may expect a fall in the number of tourist arrivals as a whole, but month-on-month comparison will still be interesting to see what lies next for our tourism industry.
