Tourism Arrivals - Oct 2019
During October, arrivals from Europe were not encouraging in spite of favourable currency. Despite higher Euro vis-a-vis the Rupee, German visits were down by 13.1% and French arrivals went up by only 2%. In the same vein, Briton arrivals went down by 13.0% regardless of higher pound.
Coming to Asia, arrivals were mixed. The two-digit contraction in arrivals from our Chinese market persisted, standing at 34.2% last month. Nonetheless, after several months of retreat, Indian visits went up by a remarkable 28.1%.
On the African side, arrivals were down. South African visits were 12.9% lower and Reunionese followed suit with a 5.1% drop.
Overall, tourist arrivals in October 2019 were 3.8% lower than October 2018.
