Tourism Arrivals - Sept 2019
During September, arrivals from Europe were mixed. Another month of lower Euro vis-a-vis the Rupee has discouraged Germans who reduced arrivals by 6.6%. Nevertheless, French tourists have still remained faithful to our island, increasing their visits by 14.6%. Despite a higher pound, British arrivals were down by 8.4%.
On the other side of the globe, the two-digit downtrend in arrivals continued to prevail. The contraction in arrivals from our Chinese market stood at 49.5% last month. Indians followed suit with a 14.6% drop in arrivals to our island.
On the African side, arrivals were mixed. While South African visits remained at par, Reunionese visits went up by 4.9%.
Overall, tourist arrivals in September 2019 were 2% lower than September 2018.
